Extra Wide Loads – Ilkeston to Goole

Tailored service
At Lymers Assist Ltd, we tailor our services to meet the specific requirements of every customer.
For this project, a factory required support to move, assemble and transport large, fabricated panels.
The load

The 6.1-metre-wide and 5.8-metre-wide loads first had to be moved out of the factory and test-assembled outside. Once this had been completed successfully, the panels then needed to be loaded onto trailers and transported to Goole ready for export.
Planning

Because of the width of the loads, planning for the project began well in advance of the final move.

This included identifying and checking the route, arranging permits and escort vehicles, and liaising with the police. In this case, South Yorkshire Police provided a full escort service.

A schedule was also created to ensure our 100 tonne-metre hiab was available to move the large, fabricated panels out of the factory and test-install them in position before they could be loaded for transport.

The move

Working closely with the customer, our 100 tonne-metre hiab and operator were on site as needed over several weeks.

The first stage was to move the initial set of panels out of the factory. They were then test-assembled to ensure the precision-fabricated sections met all requirements.

Only after they had been fully tested and checked were the panels loaded for transport. They were then successfully delivered to Goole, ready for export.

The second wide set of panels followed the same process. Careful logistics ensured every stage met the customer’s requirements and timescales.

These two loads are the widest Lymers Assist Ltd has handled to date.
Director Alex Lymer said: “We’ve come a long way from simply escorting these types of loads.

“I am incredibly proud of how far we have come in the industry.”
