Pay dependent on experience

Job description

We are looking for a full-time Senior General and Abnormal Load Planner to join our traffic team at a busy, ambitious, and growing depot in Huthwaite.

This full time role will see you be part of an operation running a 31-vehicle fleet across General Haulage, Abnormal Load, and STGO work.

With live vehicle tracking and Transportec as its transport management system, the business is investing in the systems, technology, and infrastructure needed to improve performance, visibility, and future growth.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where the successful candidate can take real ownership of daily planning, support the Transport Office, and play an important part in the continued success of the business.

No two days are the same in this varied and fast-moving role. You will plan routes, allocate loads, manage driver schedules, solve live operational challenges, and help ensure collections and deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.

It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys pace, responsibility, problem-solving, and being at the centre of a busy transport operation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule daily vehicle routes and driver allocations

  • Use transport management systems, vehicle tracking, and other operational software effectively

  • Support the transport team with general operational duties as needed

  • Coordinate collections and deliveries across the UK

  • Help maximise vehicle utilisation and reduce empty running

  • Monitor driver hours and support compliance with transport legislation and Working Time Directive regulations

  • Work closely with the Transport Manager to align vehicle planning with maintenance schedules and support site compliance

  • Liaise professionally with drivers, customers, warehouses, and subcontractors

  • Respond quickly and calmly to operational issues, including delays, breakdowns, and route changes

  • Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately

  • Maintain clear and regular communication with customers regarding delivery schedules and updates

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience supporting or managing a busy transport office or operation

  • A positive, hands-on team player who brings a flexible, professional, and can-do approach

  • A background in transport planning or haulage operations is essential for success in this role

  • A good working knowledge of UK road transport regulations and tachograph rules

  • Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network

  • Well-organised, practical, and confident when solving day-to-day operational challenges

  • Comfortable working under pressure and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-moving environment

  • Clear, confident communication skills with a customer-focused approach

  • Confident using Microsoft Office and transport planning systems

  • Able to work independently while also contributing positively as part of the wider team
